Getting The Best Cryo Services And How They Work

By Luisa Sharpe

There are quite a number of methods that can be used to treat diseases, abnormal or damaged body tissue. One of these methods is the application of cryo services. This is whereby cold temperature is applied to reduce inflammation and pain, as well as reduce metabolism or completely get rid of the diseased area.

Cryosurgery is a procedure that is used to destroy abnormal cells that are located on the cervical area. These cells would normally become cancerous if they are not removed in good time thus becoming malignant. Most medical practitioners recommend that this procedure should be performed. However, this will entirely depend on how severe the condition is and is normally based on results from biopsy samples that are taken from parts of the cervix.

During cryosurgery specialized instrument is inserted into the vagina and placed onto the cervix firmly. The cervix and the abnormal cell are covered completely by the instrument and nitrogen which is in liquid form is released at a very low temperature of 50 degree celsius.

The abnormal cells are destroyed slowly by the low temperature after which the cell are left to slough off slowly in about two to three weeks. The cervix is left to freeze for three more minutes before the procedure is completed. It is then left to thaw after which the whole procedure is repeated for an additional three minutes.

Due to the extremely low temperature that is applied directly to the cervix, a feeling of cramping may be experienced by the patient in the initial process. The pain might get worse than the regular menstrual cramping and clear off within the same day. Once the cervix adjusts to the low temperature, the cramping steadily reduces as the procedure heads for completion.

The body system should be left to relax for the rest of the day after cryosurgery is performed. After at least 24 hours from the surgery, regular activities can be resumed as usual. Some women may experience an increase in the amount of vaginal discharge. To avoid any more side effects, no item should be inserted into the vagina until two to three weeks have elapsed.

Activities that should be avoided during the recovery period of two to three weeks include sexual intercourse, douching and insertion of tampons. When it comes to killing as well as getting rid of the abnormal cervical cells, especially if they are in the lower part of the cervix, cryosurgery is more often than not very effective. This has been proven in at least 85% of such cases which have turned out successful.

Cryosurgery is associated with some risks, just like many other procedures similar to it. The risks are however minimal and the patient should be prepared for any such eventualities. This will help in fully preparing the patient psychologically on what to expect after the procedure. Pain, fever, yellow discharge and vaginal bleeding that is not related to menstruation, are some of these signs. These should be reported to the doctor immediately the signs get worse.
