Birthday Fireworks And Other Kids Party Ideas

By Luisa Sharpe

Planning a kids' birthday party, or any other kind of party, can be a lot of fun. However, if you are not a seasoned party planner, it can also be stressful. If you are planning your first kids' party, for your first child, niece, or nephew, you may be in need of ideas. Your planning is also limited by your budget; not everyone can afford a huge birthday fireworks display!

If your budget is limited, don't worry. Kids' are usually unaware of how much things cost. All they care about is whether or not they have a good time. You don't need something vastly expensive in order to make sure they have fun; you just need good planning. If you want to keep your wits about you and also plan a great party, keep these things in mind.

1. Choose a theme. This will make all of the planning easier, especially when it comes to decorations. If your child has a favorite character, such as Doc McStuffins or Spongebob Squarepants, make that character the theme of the party. Buy plates, cups, and banners that go with the theme. You could even dress up your child like the character!

2. Make the menu simple. You will thank yourself later if you choose food with minimal preparation and minimal clean-up. Pizza, chicken, and hot dogs are all good options. You can place an advance order and get them prepared, perhaps even delivered! You can also order a cake that fits with the party theme (although there is nothing like homemade cake, if you are a baker.) Supplement the main food items with a few snacks and beverages, and you're good to go!

3. Pick one main activity and several smaller ones. If your budget allows, you main activity might be something big, like a fireworks display, a pony, or a traveling petting zoo. However, you could also plan a movie day, a soccer game, or a big scavenger hunt. All of those things will be entertaining if they're planned well. Be sure to have some smaller activities, like coloring books and bubbles, on hand for kids who get bored.

4. Add special touches. A candy table is sure to make any party a hit. A special birthday chair for your child will make him or her feel special. You can also send home goodie bags with all of the guests.

5. Have other adults help you. This goes for both the planning stages and the actual party. Do NOT try to handle all of this on your own. Enlist friends, siblings, and other parents to help out. Make sure you have at least one adult for every five kids at the party. This will help your sanity a lot.

Organization is the key to planning a great kids' party. Whether you hire a clown, have a friend dress up as Winnie the Pooh, or show a favorite Pixar film with popcorn, the kids will be happy as long as they are entertained. After you have a party or two under your belt, you'll be a party-planning pro!
