The Impressive Value Of Street Lighting

By Leticia Jensen

Our streets look beautiful and clear at night because of the street lights. Street lighting can be defined as the raised source of light on the edge of the road which is turned on at a certain time every night. It uses high pressure sodium lamps which provide the greatest amount of photopic illumination and ensures there is least consumption of electricity.

Lighting our towns is important as it helps in ensuring pedestrian safety. Pedestrians' lights make it easier to see dangers around you, whether from traffic, people or animals. People are likely in a probability to be victimized if they are not indoors at night since they cannot know if a person is waiting nearby, waiting to accost them, for criminals they will think twice.

Driver's calamities such as accidents are minimized, simply because they can see well thus enhancing the chance of travelling at night. One is able to view an animal that is approaching when it's far away this has been enabled by the use of these lights. Lives of people are protected as a result of street lights, for instance if an animal is crossing the path the driver is able to see it and avoid hitting it.

In the countryside, individuals can only do most of their tasks in daytime . When the sun rise they start their routine operations of farming and looking after animals as the sunset again they retire to their homes to wait for another day to come. This is directly opposite when it comes to downtown setting where darkness does not affect people's operations at all in fact to them there is no difference between day and night.

Aluminum and steel are used to manufacture these light post this is because properties made from them are long lasting, and they do not depreciate quickly. Another reason is because of its anti- rust property and lastly posts made of aluminum and steel look very nice and attractive.

When it comes to highways light equipment should be used to explicit light. Those equipment should allow different supply of light on the through-way and the path structures while ensuring that the equipment characteristics still remain unchanged. The width of the path is what is considered when it comes to the amount of light to be supplied.

The lights situated on the sides of the roads where the components will be determined by the amount of illumination required by that path. Then also the light that enables the driver to see pedestrians and vehicles pass and finally those placed on the through-ways used by people are some of the things that are taken into consideration to determine the intensity of lighting required.

In conclusion street lights maintenance is very important; this can be achieved by two methods. One of them is Reactive which is a straight forward reaction to a power letdown for example when a vehicle hits the street light the type of maintenance taken is reactive. Secondly is the preventative and this is applicable when renewing the various elements.
