The good thing with stick type process is that it is simple and practical. Another benefit is that it is cheap and work well on most metals, including those that are thick. These and other qualities have made gain popularity in joining metals in industrial building. In fact, this process form the basis of learning other joining process used in various learning institutions that train joining of metals.

The other type is metal inert gas, which is abbreviated as MIG. This process is considered as one of the easiest types to learn. It also uses an arc. A wire is fed to the joint and welded; it is normally connected to a source of power to produce an arc. This makes it melt once it come into contact with the metals to be weld.

An MIG gun is used in this process to combine electricity, the wire and the shielding gases at once. The gun has a trigger so when pulled the metal joining process automatically starts. MIG method is commonly used in factories which require a high production capacity. It is easy to operate though setting the equipment required can be troubling if you are not experienced.

TIG is another method used which means Tungsten Inert Gas. Just like the previous two methods, it also uses an arc. Many people look at it as the most difficult method to learn. It is considered a superior method since almost all metals can be joined through this technique. A technician will make use of both his hands to come up with a joint. One of the hands will be handling the torch which produces the heat and arc through a tungsten rod while the other hand will feed the electrode.

It uses a constant current from the power supply to create an arc. This process requires a filler metal inform of a wire which is added on the joint to be welded. TIG process is good for metals which require high quality weld. Equipment employed in this type of a process are quite expensive and can be difficult to set up because they come with a remote amperage foot pedal which requires an argon gas cylinder to work.
