Fear And Doubt Cannot Defeat The Committed Business Owner

By Cornelius Nunev

Starting a small company is hard, particularly on the psychological level. Too many individuals allow fear and doubt to overwhelm them before they even begin. Here are a few ideas for coping with anxiety and uncertainty, adopting personal growth and opening the door to business success.

Step No. 1: There are no excuses that should be considered okay

For all the reasons an individual struggling with fear and doubt can devise as to why their small business idea won't work, there are just as many excuse tags that can be affixed to those reasons. Not having the time, cash or energy to embark on a small company venture are all ultimately short-term excuses. It's your life, and there's no better time to work on individual growth than the present. If you keep away from making excuses, you can move forward and make things occur yourself and your company.

Step No. 2: Forget about fear

Whenever you feel anxiety and doubt, it will only increase your chances of success is entering a new business. You will not make poor decisions about finances in case you are scared, and it will help your company to success. Hit it head on and you also should be very successful. Do not feel alone; everybody experiences anxiety, especially when it comes to beginning a brand new business.

"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see its path.

Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."

- The Bene Gesserit "Litany Against Fear" from Frank Herbert's "Dune" (1965).

Step No. 3: Let yourself get uneasy

The kind of hard work necessary to get a small business off the ground and to maintain that business is not comfortable. It's a day-in, day-out process, and there is never an off-season for a small business owner. You need to be willing to do what you should, speak with the right people and go where you must - all within legal parameters - in order to make a small business work. Anxiety and uncertainty over whether you are ready or willing will stop you cold.

Step No. 4: Make sure you do it

You need to first commit to the process and then finish it. It is always hard to try and get through every little thing without doubting yourself, but you will be much better off if you put the idea into motion and never stop. One little bump in the road should not be enough to break your spirits and stop you. Make sure you take action; do not just wish and hope.
